The answer from the greatest Sufi Attar is No!
A Sufi is a person that can surrender to every rule/morality and can break every rule.
Because every enforcement is a veil in front of the Lord. Every morality can be a hindrance to see/communicate with the Lord. And without our morality, we can’t reach the Lord.
You don’t need to be a Sufi to break a rule.
If we break our own standards/moralities, ugly things/demons will surface … And if we are confronted with our dark sides then we get purified from that.
Remember, we suppress our emotions/thoughts to stick to our rules.
Every suppression will lead at the end to something negative and that blocks our heart our love our surrender to God.
Many People think why I can live under so hard rules, (be a raw-food eater since 30 years, don’t take any drugs, meditate and exercise every day, try my best to be always honest, fair and justice…)
Because I stick to be a Sufi who can surrender to any rule and break any rule.
If I see that I become too dogmatic I break for a short time some of my rules.
For Instance:
After some years, when I meet my friend Oskar in Germany we drink usually 2 bottles of wine…
Or to be one day totally lazy… or to make something very weird…
Learn to break on purpose your rules to get free.
Look what happens.
And then you can continuously stick to your rules again.
It is just so easy and my life proofs that it works to break for a short time my rules.
