7 things that are untrue about healthy sleep

1.) We don’t need so much sleep…
At least everybody should sleep for 7 hours, even the high achievers. If we sleep less than 7 hours it will cause in the long term:
higher blood pressure,
increased risk of cardiovascular disease,
and diabetes.

2.) Waking up in the middle of the night is not good…
We go through different cycles of the sleep and to wake up between the cycles is normal. When you feel well rested your sleep is okay.

3.) To get sleepy when bored? Is okay!

4.) The brain rests when you sleep.
Is not true, sometimes the brain is more active during sleep than during normal thinking.

5.) REM sleep is the deepest and most important phase.
This is not true, Slow-wave sleep is by far most the deepest stage. And it releases also the hormones.

6.) All kind of sleep is equal.
Overweight people who snore, for example, may not even realize that their sleep is very disturbed. The same applies if we take alcohol or drugs, before going to sleep.

7.) We can go to sleep with a TV or Music when we see or hear positive media. With negative media, we get that negative information straight in our subconsciousness similar to hypnosis… Why not hear a hypnosis mp3 with positive changes/ affirmations? In any case, we should terminate the TV/mp3 player after some time (15 to 60minutes) so that we get the best out of it.
