1. Do I need that thing now, that I want to buy right now?
My chief said, I never will buy anything in advance if I don’t need it right now! Because, I save so much more money instead to buy cheap stuff!
2. If I buy that product is that the best use of my money…?
What are the alternatives? I see this always with over-spender, they don’t compare the prices seriously, and buying just out of emotion something that they could buy much cheaper!
3. Can I afford that thing without going into debt…
We have to understand the difference between investments to generate Cash-flow or just buy something that is convenient. If I generate cash-flow with going into debt, then this is an investment and that is OK. But to go for a car in debt that is overspending… This is the reason why I never buy a new car… Second hand cars are good enough!
4. What are the actual costs?
I do have to calculate all costs that are engaged to keep that thing what I like to buy in a usable condition… For instance, a car… What is the cost of petrol, maintenance, repairing, insurance, tax, interest of money that I would generate if I would invest that money, ….?
5. Will this purchase add to my life…?
Will this purchase increase my wellbeing?
Do I need that product for a function in a meaningful way?
Is that product best for that function that I need?
Is the function really necessary of this purchase?
If not, it is not worth buying!
6. Who am I are buying it for?
Who I want to be when I purchase it?
Do I want to style my life by artificial things to shine to be more?
Do I have the pressure “to be in” by buying such product or to be more than the neighbor?
Do I buy that product for image cultivation?
Do I buy that product for attention?
Be aware of these reasons and normally let that not to be a reason to buy anything.
My chief said, I do have to buy a luxury car, because it looks better for my firm image. So, he bought an old cheap Mercedes, polished the car so that the car looked good and was affordable! Makes sense?
